Rider Policies

To ensure a pleasant experience for everyone, we ask that all riders follow the policies below. These guidelines apply to all Ride Calhoun services, including RC MAX (Fixed-Route), RC MOVE (Paratransit), and RC FLEX (On-Demand).

Passenger Conduct

To ensure the safety and comfort of all riders and operators, the following rules apply on all Ride Calhoun vehicles:

  • Driver interactions: For safety reasons, please limit conversation with the driver to service related questions or concerns while the vehicle is stopped. Continuous or distracting conversations with drivers are not allowed.
  • Eating, drinking, or smoking/vaping is not permitted on any vehicle or inside any bus shelter.
  • Boisterous, abusive, or profane language or behavior is not permitted. Incidents of this nature will be reported to the Operations Manager. Passengers may be asked to leave the vehicle and/or have riding privileges suspended.
  • Alcohol and intoxicants: open and unsealed alcoholic beverage containers, consumption of alcohol, or being under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on board are prohibited.
  • Noise: cell phones, radios, music players, or other sound-producing devices must be kept silent or used with headphones.

Safety Requirements

Seat Belts – Passengers riding on RC Move, RC Flex, and BCGo must wear seat belts at all times. Riders traveling with a mobility device on these services must wear both lap and shoulder belts.

Passengers must remain seated while the vehicle is in motion.

Strollers may not block aisles or doors.

Walkers and personal cart – must be kept clear of aisles, doors, and exits at all times.

Passengers may only bring items they can carry on and off the vehicle in one trip. Personal belongings must be kept on the passenger’s lap or at their feet and may not block aisles, doors, or exits. Drivers are unable to assist with carrying groceries, packages, or belongings on or off the vehicle.

Portable Oxygen Equipment

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), passengers are permitted to travel with and use portable oxygen equipment on Ride Calhoun vehicles. For the safety of all riders, portable oxygen tanks must be stowed and secured.

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome on all Ride Calhoun vehicles. Service animals must remain under the handler’s control and behave appropriately while on board.

Reasonable Modifications

Ride Calhoun provides reasonable modifications for individuals with disabilities by making changes to policies, practices, or procedures if needed for an individual with a disability to participate in Ride Calhoun’s services. Prohibited and Hazardous Items

For the safety of all passengers and staff, the following items are not permitted on Ride Calhoun vehicles:

  • Flammable, explosive, or corrosive materials (e.g., gasoline, propane, lighter fluid, fireworks, batteries not used for mobility devices)
  • Weapons or sharp objects
  • Illegal drugs or open containers of alcohol
  • Large or unsafe items that cannot be safely stowed or could block aisles, doors, or exits
